"...the church of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth."

Heritage Baptist Church History

In September of 1961, ten families met for a prayer meeting at the home of Herb and Rose McPheron. From that seed a new ministry, the Calvary Baptist Church, took root and began to grow.

Sketch of Oak Forest BuildingsOne month later property was purchased at 5217 W. 149th Street in Oak Forest.  An existing farmhouse was converted into a meeting place, Bill Schroeder was called as the founding pastor, and the church moved into its first permanent facility on Sunday, December 3, 1961.

From 1961 to 1989 various building projects were undertaken including an auditorium, offices, educational building and gymnasium, and the name of the church was changed to Oak Forest Baptist Temple.

In April, 1992 our current pastor, Dr. Milton E. Jones, was called from Macon, GA.  Under his leadership the Oak Forest facilities were sold, property was obtained in Frankfort, IL, and new facilities were constructed. The building was dedicated in November of 1997.

Heritage Baptist Church, 2009The church now occupies a building and grounds with an auditorium, fellowship hall, offices, classrooms, playground and picnic area and is, as of October 2009, debt free.

Throughout these long years of ministry, God has provided for His work, called people to serve Him, and used this church to train and nourish the saints of God.  We look forward to future opportunities to fulfill the great commission and to bring glory to God.
